Professional volleyball player Olivia Waldowski, right, suffered a severe leg injury in the AVP tournament in Huntington Beach in June 2010.
She dove for a shot and landed on a large piece of wood that was hidden below the sand, ripping up her leg.
She was unable to play for the rest of the season. Waldowski filed a claim and then a lawsuit against the city, saying the city didn’t properly dredge the courts to insure they were safe for the players. Readers who commented on the story showed support for Waldowski’s claim saying the sand where a professional tournament was being held should have been properly maintained.
